MSCA Wrap: Sandown - October 2022
Hi everyone
The Husband had one job and that was to order good weather at Sandown, and he did not disappoint. The Weather Gods were kind to us and in a rare October moment, the sun shone brightly, and the clouds did not weep. Whilst we were spared, our thoughts were with our country competitors impacted by the destructive floods. We hope you are doing okay and sending our best wishes. After some deep breaths and early morning meditation, Flappy-Arms-Husband did his best to maintain his inner poise in dummy grid. I wandered down to see how Zen-Man was going only to catch him doing his best, “look at moi” Kath & Kim impersonation, as his flap-flaps intensified. The Husband’s flappy-arm-moves did not disappoint. Our new gridding system is going well for him. He’ll be wanting to head back up to the tower to have a little rest and a lie down very soon. About 100 competitors enjoyed the dryish track conditions for our last competitive round of the year.
The same could not be said for the conditions of the infield where it favoured ducks more than drivers. The roaring easterly wind was not our friend with the noise meter having a particularly spectacular day. Some of our regular competitors were unusually impacted and we thank them for their understanding and patience. Unfortunately, infamous Dandenong Road claimed a lovely little Mini and had us all holding our breath and our officials earning their keep. I am very pleased to report that Vaughan is doing well and sends his gratitude to all who supported his recovery. We welcomed back the very lovely Peter Nowlan who set the fastest time of the day in his NRC Bullet (1:16:4). This was followed by Tim Blakeney in his beautifully presented FPV (1:18:0) and Daniel Leitner in his Autobarn livery WRX (1:19:8). It’s great to see Daniel, an ex-Come & Try graduate, doing so well.
MSCA 50th Anniversary and Awards Presentation lunch, Sunday 13 November
Our 50th Anniversary and Awards lunch at Killara Estate is almost fully subscribed so now is the time to register via the MA event entry system. Hosted by Chad Neylon, V8 supercars commentator, enjoy a car display and a $25 three-course lunch subsidised by the MSCA with motorsport friends.
Come & Try Day – Phillip Island, Saturday 3 December
We have limited spots available for our upcoming Come & Try Day so if you know someone who is keen to give motorsport a red-hot go, suggest they enter now. The day is aimed at novice drivers and offers a safe introduction to grassroots motorsport. This popular program includes basic circuit driving techniques, classroom and practical sessions and coaching by skilled instructors. The MSCA proudly supports diversity and inclusion in motorsport and we’re encouraging women and juniors to enter this event . MSCA nominated instructors and officials, please register for this event to confirm your availability.
2023 Calendar
Our calendar for next year is very close to being finalised. Keep your eye on our website and standby for an update soon. As this year’s calendar draws to a close, I send a heartfelt thanks to the volunteers and officials who make it possible for us to bring each event to you. Around 40 volunteers give up their time so we can go sprinting. They stand in the unforgiving sun and bone-chilling cold, they turn up to check you in and hand out a dorian and release you onto the track; they wave a flag to keep you safe. They drive our course car, and they recover you when you’ve had a whoopsie. They make sure we have a great time and go home safely.Finally, we could not run our events without you, our loyal competitors. We were on a wild ride during the COVID years, and you stuck with us, returning trackside stronger than ever. We often hear that our events are well-run, and whilst we are chuffed with this feedback, this is not possible without your support and doing your bit to make things run smoothly. You have helped create our friendly and inclusive culture which is at the heart of the MSCA.
To all of you, thank you. We look forward to doing it all again in 2023.
