MSCA Wrap: phillip island september 2024
Phillip Island – September 2024
Hi everyone
We headed to Phillip Island with a full field of entrants that included Formula Fords, Fun Cars and Funky Falcons from VIC Saloons, with the hope of good weather, good track conditions and an all-round good day. Perhaps I mozzed it when, as we drove into the circuit, I said to The Husband, “I’ve got a funny feeling about today”, and like all good self-fulfilling prophecies, it came true.
Things were spicy at the Island. For starters, The Husband failed dismally at his core job of getting the weather right. He got is so wrong he may as well have been forecasting from Mars. It was proper wet-socks-cold-feet kind of weather for most of the day. That made things very funky. A tight schedule, a wet track and an unfortunate and regretted oil spill made for very challenging conditions on and off the track. Water-logged flaggies, soggy flappy-arms (and soggy pants) and a lot of broom action from amazing helpers, the day had it all. We had too many red flags and recoveries to mention, but nothing too catastrophic. Needless to say, it was a tough day in the office for everyone.
A huge thank you to the drivers and volunteers who, without hesitation, got on the end of the broom and helped clean up a significant oil spill. It makes my heart sing when all we have to do is ask, and MSCA folks are there to lend a hand.
A very special shout out to the officials who stood in the rain all day to grid up drivers, release them onto the circuit and wave numerous flags to keep our competitors safe. You are amazing human beings.
As for times, let’s just say no one was setting PBs, but a few brave folks did some great times. Times are not available at this time of publishing but will follow soon.
Steve Duggan also braved the elements taking his photos. They are no available online here:
